Brisbane Formula 500 Club -Another Iverson Qld Title Win

Nearly 15 years after Kaydon Iverson’s dad, Alan, scored Queensland Formula 500 Title success, Kaydon Iverson last Saturday night at Brisbane’s Archerfield Speedway drove to victory in the 2014-15 season running of the Ian Boettcher Race Parts supported Queensland Formula 500 Title.

In what was an action-packed Queensland Title deciding feature race, Kaydon Iverson, who had started from outside of the second row in the field, took control of the lead on lap 19. From there, he was never headed all the way through to the finish of the 25-lap event. For the Iverson family, they now join Mick and Nathan Pronger and Charlie and Laurence Quagliata as family Queensland Title winners.

Current Tyrepower 600 Series leader Kristin Brown put in a fantastic drive to finish in second place on the podium. She was joined on the podium by her hard charging younger brother, Charlie, in third. Charlie Brown had encountered dramas in the earlier heat races and had to qualify for the feature race via the B main, which he ended up winning. After starting the feature race from position 17, he powered his way through the field to snare the final spot on the podium.

The best of the interstate visitors was current South Australian Champion Jack Bell (Vic), who finished just off the podium in fourth.

The hard luck stories of the feature race were both Shilleto and Victorian Dylan Willsher. Shilleto, who was the highest point scorer heading into the feature race, crashed out on lap 12 in turn three while sitting in second behind Shilleto. Shilleto managed to restart at the tail of the field and then fought his way back to finish inside the top 10. After starting alongside Shilleto on the front of the feature race, Willsher grabbed control of the lead on the second lap from Shilleto, and set the pace up until lap 19, when he fell victim in turn three at exactly the same spot where Shilleto did and crashed out of contention.

Other drivers who failed to finish the feature race were two-time Queensland Champion Nathan Pronger, 2001 Queensland Champion Alan Iverson, Brooke Wanless, Simon Sullivan, Ryan Skennar and Scott Farmer.

In the heat-race action, Shilleto was the standout by winning three heat races from as many starts. Other hear-race winners were Metcalfe, Josh Buckingham, Willsher, Bell, Iverson and Kristin Brown.

The B main resulted in Charlie Brown powering to the win ahead of Pronger and Johnson in second and third place respectively.

The attention now turns to this weekend for the running of the Australian Formula 500 Title at Rockhampton Speedway in Queensland.

The 11th and penultimate Tyrepower 600 Series round is to be held on the Saturday night of April 18 at Archerfield Speedway.
