RUTHERFORD ROLLS TO BIG WIN AT LINDA'S
by BARRY ANGSTADT
Jonestown, Pa. - Just before this year's PA 600 Speedweek kicked off, Mike Rutherford debuted a brand new PACE Chassis. On Friday night at Linda's Speedway, Rutherford collected enough cash to make quite a few payments on his new Micro-Sprint.

When leader Brock Zearfoss fell victim to a stuck injector with two circuits complete, Rutherford inherited command of the A-Main. He went to on to post a convincing win as the 30-lap event went non-stop, green to checkered for the second consecutive night of Speedweek competition.

Rutherford not only claimed the $1,000 victory, he also earned the Valken Wheel Challenge Bonus of $1,000 because his No. 6 had four Valken Wheels on its corners. He became the first driver to collect the Valken Challenge Bonus during the six race series. Another $500 was waiting for Rutherford at the payout window for his triumph in the Hinchman Racewear Manufacturer's Challenge. Add in the gift certificates donated by various Micro-Sprint vendors, and Rutherford walked out of Linda's with more than $3,000 for his evening's efforts.

"We just debuted this car a week ago, and the guys from PACE have been real helpful in getting us headed in the right direction with it," said Rutherford in victory lane. "We actually missed (the set up) a little bit tonight. With the spec tire mandated by Speedweek rules, when the track rubbers up like it did tonight and the cars lock down, they are really a handful. I got tight and couldn't get by any more of the lapped cars, and when you go 30 laps non-stop, it will wear you out."

Tim Buckwalter reversed his Speedweek fortunes with a runner-up finish. Buckwalter closed in on Rutherford as they negotiated lapped traffic, but he could not narrow the gap enough to offer a serious challenge to the ace from Newmanstown, Pa.

Arron Spahr finished third ahead of Ryan Greth and Jimmy Glenn.

There were 65 cars in the Linda's Speedway pit area on a beautiful night for racing.

With his victory, Rutherford slipped into second place in the PA 600 Speedweek point standings. With just one event left to run, Rutherford trails Heath Hehnly by a scant five points heading into Micromania at Lanco's Clyde Martin Memorial Speedway on Saturday.
