Chris Brooks
"The excitement Machine" Steve James has claimed his break through maiden feature victory by winning one of the biggest races on the calendar in the Southern Showdown at Speedway City on Saturday night.
For the BROOKS - JAMES Motorsport team, it was a welcome return to their home track at Speedway City with James taking the victory in his Dutchman Performance PMP Chassis, while team mate Chris Brooks in the number 48 Penrite Oils Stallard Honda also having some good results.
After a solid first round heats of heats, the BROOKS - JAMES Motorsport duo came off the front row in the final heat of the night, with James getting the jump from the start. From there heat was never headed and took the win, while Brooks and a solid heat by finishing third.
After the heat points were calculated, it was James who top qualified going into the top six pole shuffle, while two solid runs in the heats saw Brooks qualify fifth and also earning start in the shuffle. The team wrapped to have both cars qualify for the Knuckles Logistics top six pole shuffle.
Both cars however lost their respective two lap shuffle races to the same driver in Victorian Leigh Van Ginneken. Van Ginneken moving from sixth highest point score to starting off on pole. This would ensure that James would start from the outside of the front row while Brooks started sixth.
With a clean start, it was James who got the jump and moved into the lead, while Brooks was caught in traffic and lost a couple of placing's early. As the race wore on, James increased his lead and the field settled down to fast clean racing where it was James who took the victory in a non stop 20 lap final which saw the James set a new track record over that distance. Brooks would come home finishing eighth while being hindered for outright pace.
The team was obviously thrilled at the result but also pleased as both cars continued to find speed and reliability. While James took home the $1000 first prize, Brooks was also rewarded for his efforts by winning a new front wing, complements of Winning Wings.
The team now has a busy time this week to prepare the cars for the next race meeting this weekend, when they head to Renmark for the running of the Riverland Cup on Saturday night.
