:: Kc Sheds & Garages/tri Steel F500 Stampede Series Simpson Nominations

Thursday, 18 February 2010
Daniel Kirby

Watch out Simpson Speedway, a Stampede is headed your way this Saturday night (Feb 20th) when Round 3 of the KC Sheds & Garages/Tri Steel Stampede series for Formula 500’s comes to town.
20 cars have nominated and the field includes various former Stampede Series Champions and different round winners.

Heading the list is last Saturday’s night Round 2 Winner at Darlington, “The General” Jack Lee. Lee has really come of age in the Formula 500 ranks with an overall Top 5 finish in the Oval Express Series and a win in the recent South Australian Title at Bordertown’s Tolmer Speedway.

2008/2009 Victorian Rookie of the Year Steven Horton finished second last week and showed great car speed. In only his second year of competition, this former go kart ace is knocking on the door of a maiden A-Main victory. Joining Horton in the second RTA Technologies RTS car will be his Uncle, Ian Smith. Smith has a great relationship with the Simpson clay way finishing 3rd in the corresponding event earlier last season.
Round 1 winner at Drouin Speedway, Chad Sullivan returns aboard the Willsher family owned V8 Swift Chassis. After missing round 2 due to work commitments Sullivan will be hungry for another round win and continue the form that led to an overall top 5 finish in the Oval Express Series.

Brothers Dale and Ash Sinclair return aboard the Mack Daddy racing Stallard’s. Dale was very quick last weekend at Darlington and was stiff to finish just outside of the top 4. Ash meanwhile returned to the winners circle picking up 2 heat race wins. Watch for the Sinclair brothers to be towards the front.
A host of young guns will be out to spoil the party. They include James Aranyosi, Jesse Nicolas and Jye O’Keeffe. O’Keeffe pulled off an amazing feat last week where he won a heat race after starting on the last row by showing some great driving skill and awesome moves. Unfortunately 2 spins in the final forced O’Keeffe infield.

Victorian Formula 500 Association Chaplain Kevin Freeman is back in action. Kev finished the A-Main last week aboard the RED DUST Role Models V66 and it was good to see him back behind the wheel after riding out a sickening roll at the opening round of the Oval Express Series on Boxing night last year.

Cobden local Jess Moulden saddles up aboard the V53. After campaigning a 360 Sprintcar over the last 2 weekends, Moulden returns behind the wheel and looks to go further than last season event at Simpson. After leading the way in the final and looking set to take a well earned victory, disaster struck when a spin forced her to finish on the infield.
Each car will compete in 3 heats over 10 laps with the highest point scorers starting from the front in the 20 lap A-Main. Will Jack Lee go back to back or will Steven Horton finally break through for the win? Only time will tell. Hot laps start at 6pm with racing shortly after that.
