Current point leader in the NSW Premier Formula 500 Drivers' Series Michael Baxter will be determined to maintain his consistency in the tournament when he competes in the next round of the championship at Lismore Speedway Saturday night.
Baxter, who presently enjoys a 44-point lead over Kenny Norman, has posted strong finishes in recent rounds that has helped him maintain his advantage at the top of the leader board.
In round two at Tamworth Speedway he was placed fourth to main event winner Brian Thorley and minor placegetters Roy Urpeth and Kenny Norman, while a couple of weeks later the third round conducted at Gilgandra Speedway resulted in another fourth placing for Baxter in the main event taken out by Urpeth.
It sets the scene for a competitive round on the circular Lismore Showground venue which is ideally suited to the exciting racing produced by Formula 500s.
?The earlier rounds in this series have clearly shown there is little, if anything, between the top four or five competitors,? Lismore Speedway programme David Lander said yesterday.
?Michael Baxter will certainly be there at the finish after his previous results in the series and if past form serves as a guide he will be in the top four at the completion of the main event."
As an indication of the intensity this season of the NSW Premier Formula 500 Drivers' Series, only 53 points separate the top three in the current point standings heading to Lismore.
Baxter enjoys a 44-point break over Kenny Norman, while Scott Siemsen trails Norman by nine points in third spot.
The man who also looms as a strong contender is seasoned campaigner Roy Urepth whose feature race victory at Gilgandra showed he is in top form. Urpeth is one of the most experienced drivers in the series who will press his claims for victory at the Lismore venue which he drives extremely well.
It sets the scene for an exciting round of the Formula state-wide tournament.
The Formula 500s will be supported by Lightning Sprints, Dwarf cars, AMCA Nationals, Street Stocks, Four Cylinder Sedans and Junior Sedans.
Promoter David Lander continues his seasonal policy of free admission for all children aged under 12 accompanied by an adult.
